Acceptability of Female Condom from the Viewpoint of Contraception

Abstract
The female condom is the first barrier method that provides dual protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease and won by women. The failure rate of female condom for one year is 5 percent in perfect users and 21 percent in non-perfect users. In Korea, the practice rate of female condom in married women(aged 15-49) was 0.1 percent. A polyurethane female condom is inherently stronger and resists environmental deterioration. The female condom dose not cause genital irritation, allergic reaction in those individuals sensitive to latex. The high cost of female condom is barrier to use condom, and insertion difficulty affects acceptance/use of female condom. The female condom is positioned as an effective alternative to the male condom to protect against both unintended pregnancy and STDs/HIV. One way to increase assess to female condom is through social marketing. Social marketing of female condom is spreaded to large scale efforts for sexual workers and women.
